GINGIN WATER WHEEL

Have you noticed that the iconic water wheel at Granville Park in the centre of Gingin has been restored?.  Since originally built by Frank Butler 34 years ago, the wheel has been a centre of interest to tourists and been identified by local residents as a symbol of the town.  Our beloved Gingin Waterwheel has been restored by Gingin Men's Shed community group and is now back in its rightful place at Granville Park. A new fence compliments the iconic Waterwheel's fresh look.

The official "first rotation" of the restored Water Wheel took place at the British Car Day on 20 May 2012.

Over the past few years, the water wheel suffered damage due to age and exposure, and no longer turned and pumped water to the fountain in the nearby lake, and was in much need of restoration.

The Gingin Men's Shed community group contacted the Shire offering its assistance with the restoration. As well as the co-operation of the Shire, assistance came from Tiwest, Brendon Fewster, Kim Gray, Tuss
and Paul Butler.

For anyone in the community who wishes to be involved with the Gingin Men's Shed community group, they meet at the Golf Club on Tuesday mornings from 9.00 to 12.00, or contact Bruce on 9575 1353, Max on 9575 2306 or Jim on 0409 720 620.

On a historical note, in 1979 the local District High School used the Water Wheel as the centre of its school crest.
