Library Information

The Shire of Gingin is home to 3 libraries. Two of our Libraries are operated by the Shire in Gingin and Lancelin respectively. The third is operated by volunteers in Guilderton.

Current Events

Do to the COVID-19 Pandemic, our Libraries have reopened but are currently operating with certain measures in place to help slow the spread of COVID-19. Events also remain cancelled for our Libraries such as Rhyme/Story Time, etc.

Library Services

Membership

Membership is free. Any person wishing to become a member of a Shire of Gingin public library is required to complete a membership form which includes your contact information and signature. In the event you change address it is important to let our library staff know.

Members are responsible for the items they borrow - books are expensive to replace so it is important to take care of all borrowed material.  If any items are lost or damaged you will be billed for their replacement.

Members are requested to inform library staff of any damage to items borrowed from the library.

Book Request Service

Shire of Gingin public libraries are part of the State Library of WA (SLWA). As part of this service members have access to over 2.3 million items held in libraries throughout Western Australia.

If a member requires an item not held in the local library, a request form can be filled out with details of the author and title or subject of the item required. A search is then carried out of the SLWA database in order to determine if a copy of the item is available in WA. If a copy is located  library staff will submit a request to loan the item for a period of up to 6 weeks.

Free Movie Access

Members of the Gingin and Lancelin Libraries can now access free movies using their Gingin/Lancelin library card. All you need to do is sign up and create an account with Kanopy at: www.kanopystreaming.com/wa

When this account has been created, the direct link for Gingin and Lancelin Library members is:  http://gingin.kanopystreaming.com where members only have to enter their library barcodes - no pin.

Each member will have 4 credits to watch 4 films/documentaries per month and this is reset on the 1st of every month.

You then have 72 hours to watch or re-watch a film from the time they start to watch that film.
