Guilderton & Ledge Point Groynes Community Consultation Session

Past Event

The Shire of Gingin has engaged independent coastal engineering consultants, Cardno, to assess the current condition of the groyne at Guilderton and the 2 x groynes at Ledge Point. As part of this assessment Cardno would like the community’s feedback to assist them in preparing their recommendations for the maintenance and actions in relation to the groynes for the next 10 years for Council. The feedback the community will be asked to provide will centre around future actions in regards to the groynes, i.e. remove, reinstate or upgrade. The session will also be an opportunity for the consultants to provide a detailed update to the community on the current condition of each groyne.

The consultation session is scheduled to take place at the Guilderton Community Hall next Wednesday, 16 June 2021 from 4-6pm. Light refreshments will be provided so please RSVP for catering purposes.

The groyne at Guilderton and the 2 x groynes at Ledge Point have been subject to steady deterioration since their construction. The Guilderton groyne was constructed in 1967 to provide a sheltered area for swimming and launching recreational vessels. At Ledge Point, the southern groyne was constructed in 1977 in response to erosion threatening properties at the south end of the town site. Following its construction, the beach to its north began to erode, leading to construction of the northern groyne in 1985.
