Borrowing Items

Library members can borrow up to 10 items at any one time for a three week borrowing period. Due dates for borrowed items can be extended by emailing or calling your library branch to renew your loan.

Inter-library loans

As part of the State Library of Western Australia’s network of public libraries, the Shire of Gingin libraries have access to books and audio-books held right across the state.  If you require access to items that aren’t available from Gingin or Lancelin libraries please complete a request form.  Our library staff will do their best to access a copy of the requested item for you.

From 1 July 2023 there will be changes to the delivery of the inter-library loans service in Western Australia in response to increased transport costs and sustainability issues impacting the service.

Inter-library loans are not being suspended, and there is no reduction in State Government funding for public library services.

Material requested by library users which is not currently in an individual library’s collection will be supplied in electronic format (e.g eBooks) in the first instance.

Print copies can be purchased on demand when an electronic version is unavailable or cannot meet user needs. Inter-library loans will still be available when requested materials cannot be suppled in either of these ways.

BETTER BEGINNINGS

In conjunction with the State Library of Western Australia and partially funded by the Shire of Gingin, the Better Beginnings family literacy program is promoted by Gingin and Lancelin libraries.

Each new born baby attending the Child Health Centre will receive a free yellow Better Beginnings bag containing a variety of useful items and information about the benefits of reading to babies.

At two years of age, every child can request a free Better Beginnings pack from their library that provides parents with resources to use at home.

All kindy children participate in the Better Beginnings program with free reading packs provided by the library to students at school.

Families with home-schooled children can contact their local public library to arrange to collect their free reading packs.

Better Beginnings Discovery Backpacks

Better Beginnings Discovery Backpacks are available for loan from your library . Backpacks are linked to learning areas in the Curriculum Framework - English, Math and Science. Their contents include books, puppets, self-paced activities, an audiobook and literacy games. There are also some great reading tips and online activities for you and your child to complete together.
