Extension of the Prohibited Burning Period 🔥

Published on Friday, 28 February 2020 at 10:33:15 AM

Pursuant to Section 17 (7) of the Bushfires Act 1954, it is hereby notified that the Prohibited Burning Period within the Shire of Gingin has been extended until:

SATURDAY, 14 MARCH 2020

During this time NO BURNING is permitted for any reason. This includes open cooking or campfires.

Given all the recent weather, perhaps the extension of the Prohibited Burning Period for the Shire of Gingin will come as a surprise to some. However, despite the rain the Shire is heading back into much warmer weather over the coming weeks. Several fires in the area have also been caused by lightning strikes over the past week which have required extinguishing by our Bush Fire Brigades despite the rainy weather.

The summer of 2019/20 has been significantly dry and despite the rain, it has not been able to dampen the ground significantly enough. With warmer weather forecast, the decision to extend the Prohibited Burning Period a further two weeks was unanimous. Community safety is the number one priority for the Shire which is why this decision was made.
