Further Information on WA Travel Restrictions

Published on Tuesday, 31 March 2020 at 4:00:00 PM

The Shire and Shane Love's Office are receiving a number of queries regarding what region the Shire of Gingin is located in regarding the WA Travel Restrictions set to come in from midnight tonight.

If you live in the Shire of Gingin in any of our numerous communities (Gingin, Seabird, Lancelin, Ledge Point, Guilderton, Seaview Park, Ocean Farm, Redfield Park, Sovereign Hill, Woodridge, Neergabby, etc.) then you are in the Wheatbelt region.

You are NOT in the Metro region and therefore, unless you qualify under the exemptions, you may not go to Perth once these restrictions come into place.

ANY QUESTIONS

Further clarification on any of the above and below information should be directed to the State Government (contact the Premier's Office on 6552-5000 / wa-government@dpc.wa.gov.au) or visit - www.wa.gov.au/organisation/department-of-the-premier-and-cabinet/covid-19-coronavirus-travel-and-transport-advice.

The Shire does not know the answer to most of the questions we are receiving therefore, please contact the State Government. Thank you.

Of the queries the Shire has received from the community since our previous post on this topic on Friday, 27 March, we can clarify the following after speaking to the State Government:

Applying for an Exemption

A form will be made available to the public on the State Government's website later today (or possibly tomorrow - the Shire will share the link once it becomes available) to apply for an exemption. It may take a little while for your form to be processed. If you do need to cross regions whilst you are still waiting for your form to be approved and you are stopped by Police then please make sure to have some form of proof (e.g.: a letter from an employer if it relates to work, etc.) to prove to the Police where you are going and why.

Shopping for Groceries

The State Government has advised that all residents located in the Wheatbelt region will not be able to go to the Metro region, i.e. Joondalup, Midland or elsewhere in the Metro region to do any grocery shopping. Therefore, if you are a resident living in the Shire of Gingin then you may only travel to the Metro region if you are able to successfully apply for an Exemption via the State Government's website once their application process is available.

The advice from the Shire is to first and foremost support our local businesses who are doing it tough right now. #ShopLocal, #BuyLocal. 💕

Where this cannot be achieved then the Shire and State Government recommend commuting to Jurien Bay and Moora for our Upper Coastal Region communities and to Bindoon, Toodyay and Northam for our Lower Coastal and Gingin Region communities.

Moving Home

If you do not have to move then please do not. If you have no choice because your lease has been terminated or for some other reason, then you will need to apply for an Exemption under 'Compassionate Grounds' via the State Government's exemption application process once it is available on their website.

Sharing Child Custody

Similar to 'moving home', if you and your ex-partner have a shared custody arrangement for your children and you live in separate regions then you will need to apply for an Exemption under 'Compassionate Grounds' via the State Government's exemption application process once it is available on their website.
