The Shire of Gingin is currently working with a community-led working group entitled the Gingin Outdoor Activity Space Project Working Group on the 'Gingin Outdoor Activity Space Project' for location at the corner of Jones and Weld St, Gingin.
The goals for the project is to create a space that:
- Is a safe and inviting environment, encouraging community usage, enjoyment and connectivity;
- Provides fun for children and grows their creative play;
- Is accessible and inclusive, fostering social interaction of all ages;
- Celebrates the history, diversity and identity of the Gingin community and local region;
- Preserves and promotes the natural environment;
- Contributes to economic development through tourism and visitor interest (patronage);
- Promotes physical activity and community well-being; and
- Is financially sustainable.
CONCEPT DESIGN-DRAFT
The project has now progressed to a ‘Concept Design-Draft’. The design is based upon the results from the community survey conducted in February 2019, general community feedback and the above project goals.
The Concept Design-Draft will be on display for two weeks at the Gingin Library (located at the Gingin CRC) and Gingin Shire Administration office (during Office Hours) from Friday, 24 May to Friday, 7 June (during office hours) and viewable by clicking here.
COMMUNITY CONSULTATION
To ‘Have Your Say’ please partake in one of the following consultation activities.

- Wednesday, 29 May, 3-5pm, outside Gingin IGA, 2 Brockman St, Gingin
- Thursday, 30 May, 4.30-6.30pm, Bendigo Bank Complex, New St, Gingin
- Wednesday, 5 June, 10am – 12pm, Gingin CRC, 1A Lily King Place, Gingin
Note: A separate closed session will be held for students at Gingin District High School and with members of the Gingin Men’s Shed.
Representatives from the working group and the Shire will be on hand to support each of the community consultation activities. The consultation period closes at 4pm, Friday, 7 June 2019.
EVALUATION OF FEEDBACK
All feedback received will be collated and the key (common) themes identified. This information will then be presented to GISG who, with the Shire and Concept Designer, will collectively determine the final concept design based on:
- Consideration of the greater community needs;
- Project costs and budget constraints;
- Whole of life costs (e.g. maintenance, repair, replacement, etc.);
- Funding priorities, availability and associated staging;
- Logistics including utilities location, size of area, access, land formation, etc.; and
- Other, as applicable.
Once finalised the Concept Design-Draft will be made available to the public via social media and the Shire’s “Council to Community” Newsletter.
