Accessible (ACROD) Parking

What entitlements does an ACROD permit provide?

The Shire has a number of ACROD bays that allow for easy and convenient access for ACROD permit holders. An ACROD permit holders in entitled to FREE parking in all ACROD bays or any paid parking bay if an ACROD bay is not available. Totally and Permanently Incapacitated (TPI) ex-serviceperson permit holders are entitled to FREE parking in any paid parking bay other than a marked ACROD parking bay. If you are a visitor then an official Disabled Parking Permit is accepted in the Shire of Gingin and affords the holder the same entitlements as an ACROD permit.

Changing Places Facilities (Accessible Public Toilets)

A 'Changing Places Facility' is a public toilet facility with full sized change tables and hoists designed to meet the needs of people with severe and profound disabilities.

Currently the Shire has one such facility located in Guilderton at the Estuary Foreshore on the corner of Dewar & Edwards Streets in proximity to the Guilderton Caravan Park. The facility has a shower and is accessible with a 24 hour access with your own Master Locksmiths Access Key (MLAK).

Further details on other Changing Places Facilities in WA can be found via the Changing Places website -

Disability Access & Inclusion Plan

The WA Disability Services Act 1993 requires each local government to have a Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP).

DAIPs provide a means of ensuring people with disabilities have the same opportunities as other people to access services, community events, buildings and facilities, information, consultative and complaint resolution processes.

The Shire of Gingin's current DAIP was adopted in 2017 and provides a 5 year planned approach to progressively improve access to community services provided by the Shire for residents and visitors with disabilities.

The Disability Access & Inclusion Plan 2017-2022 is available in both printed and audio formats:
