Coastal Hazard Risk Management and Adaptation

The Shire of Gingin is preparing for the threats of climate change and sea level rise to the coastal settlements of Guilderton, Seabird, Ledge Point and Lancelin. The Coastal Hazard Risk Management and Adaptation Plan (CHRMAP) has been prepared to provide a long term view of the potential future coastal erosion impacts to the coastal townships and provide possible strategies to adapt to the changing oceanic and coastal conditions.

The development of the CHRMAP has followed the requirements of State Planning Policy 2.6: State Coastal Planning Policy and supporting guideline documents. The document is currently in draft form with Council deliberating on formal adoption and implementation of the CHRMAP, link below:

FAQs

Coastal Hazard Maps

The State Planning Policy 2.6 and Frequently Asked Questions above should be read before viewing the hazard maps. It is important to note that these maps do not predict future shoreline positions. The maps indicate the inland boundary of an area that may be vulnerable to coastal erosion over various planning timeframes. Identifying these areas is necessary for future planning purposes.
