Published on Thursday, 14 March 2024 at 2:52:29 PM

The Shire’s Environmental Health team’s recent sampling at the Caraban rope swing site at Moore River confirmed detection of Thermophilic Naegleria Amoeba.

Sample testing will be ongoing to monitor the situation and until results confirm the all clear, safety signage will be reinstalled at this location and the public are advised that participating in any water-based activities in this area are at their own risk.

Please note – while testing at the three Guilderton Foreshore sites confirmed the all-clear, recent testing at the Moore River Bridge location confirmed the presence of Thermophilic Amoebae as well.

Anyone who has entered these waters and experiencing symptoms including nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal, chest pain etc, should seek medical attention and notify the Department of Health’s Environmental Health Directorate on 9222 2000 (during office hours) or email: ehinfo@health.wa.gov.au.
