Camping
Under the Caravan Park and Camping Grounds Regulations 1997 it is an offence to camp on ANY land without the consent of the owner. This effectively means that camping anywhere within the Shire of Gingin, apart from in registered Caravan Parks and camping grounds, or on private property with the consent of the owner, is an offence.
The Shire of Gingin experiences a great deal of popularity with various interest groups that has led to frequent casual camping and a rise in associated problems such as littering, unauthorised fires, abandoned motor vehicles and obvious health risks. As a result, the penalties associated with a breach of the Regulations in relation to camping involve either a $100 on-the-spot fine imposed by infringement, or up to $1,000 if dealt with by a Summons to appear in Court. The Shire of Gingin will not hesitate to enforce the provisions of these Regulations.
Currently the only available free camping spot within the Shire of Gingin is the Moore River Bridge Rest Area located on Indian Ocean Drive. This area is managed by Main Roads WA and because it is classified as a "rest area", as per the Caravan Park and Camping Grounds Regulations 1997, camping is only permitted for 24 hours.
