Gingin Heritage Trail
The Shire of Gingin is seeking expressions of interest from community members to participate in the Gingin Heritage Trail Working Group. This working group will provide local insight and advice to help shape the ongoing development of the Gingin Heritage Trail, a project celebrating the town’s unique history, stories, and natural environment.
The Gingin Heritage Trail currently includes the Jim Gordon VC Trail and the Heritage Trail. These trails are already enjoyed by residents and visitors, but the project aims to enhance and differentiate them through a staged approach. The working group will help guide improvements, including the introduction of interactive technology, better wayfinding, richer storytelling, updated maps, and improved accessibility and information for residents and tourists.
Purpose of the Working Group
- Provide advice on differentiating and improving the existing and informal trails.
- Contribute ideas and feedback on trail themes, stories, and design enhancements.
- Act as a link between community members, local groups, and the Shire.
- Help ensure the trails are more engaging, accessible, and informative for all users.
Who Can Apply
We are looking for residents, business owners and representatives affiliated with the Shire’s economy and history, with an interest in areas such as:
- Tourism;
- Heritage;
- Retail;
- Local industry; and/or
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Meeting Commitment
Stage one of the project includes a once-off working group formed specifically for the Heritage Trail project. It is not an ongoing formal committee. Members will participate in one main brainstorming workshop to share ideas and local insights, and occasional touchpoints (for example, by email or short progress meetings) over the course of the project to review key milestones and ensure the project remains on track. Participation will be flexible and designed to fit around members’ existing commitments.
The initial workshop is anticipated to be held in February and it is essential that members can participate in this session.
Membership
The Shire will appoint up to five (5) community members to the working group. While we value every expression of interest, only a limited number of positions are available to ensure effective discussion and representation. We are seeking a diverse mix of people which includes a balance of ages, genders, backgrounds, and interests, to reflect the broader community.
Selection Criteria
To ensure fairness and transparency, members will be selected based on the following considerations:
- Demonstrated interest or experience in local history, heritage, trails, tourism, culture, or community development.
- Connection to the Shire of Gingin, either as a resident or through a business or organisation contributing to the local economy.
- Diversity of representation, ensuring a range of perspectives and experiences.
- Availability to attend the initial workshop and engage in follow-up milestones as needed.
- Willingness to collaborate respectfully with other members and stakeholders.
All applications will be reviewed by the project team, and final selections will be endorsed by the Chief Executive Officer.
Project Updates
All community members who submit an expression of interest will be kept updated on the progress of the Gingin Heritage Trail project, including key milestones and outcomes, via email and through updates posted on the Shire of Gingin website. Please let us know if you wish to opt out of these notifications.
