The Shire of Gingin would like to thank and acknowledge the efforts of everyone involved in containing the recent Gingin-Bindoon fires.
“On behalf of the Shire I’d like to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in the recent fire containment efforts at Gingin and Bindoon,” said Shire President Wayne Fewster. “Unfortunately, two houses and nine outbuildings were lost, several others were damaged, and 5,500 hectares were burnt, however 54 homes were saved thanks to the joint efforts of many individuals and agencies.
“We are extremely thankful for the support of DFES, SES, Dept of Biodiversity, Conservation & Attractions, WA Police, St John Ambulance, Dept of Communities, Western Power, and all other agencies who were involved in this incident.
“The Shire of Gingin has a close working relationship with Metro North Coastal region of DFES with fire management issues particularly, and the professionalism of the DFES team and all the other support agencies was integral to the successful containment of and recovery from the fires.
“I would like to extend our deepest thanks to all the incredible local and regional volunteer bush fire brigade members and Volunteer Fire and Rescue teams who came from all over the State and bravely attended the fires in very trying conditions. Your efforts are appreciated more than words can express.”
The Shire would also like to praise the way in which the whole community responded to the emergency.
“Our thanks also go out to the private contractors who provided heavy machinery and water carting to assist with the firefighting, and the local businesses and community groups who all played a crucial role in helping our towns to get through the bushfire emergency and recovery process. We cannot thank you enough.
“Our thoughts continue to be with everyone who lost homes and property, and the Shire is committed to doing what we can to assist with recovery.”
The Shire would like to remind everyone that there are still a few more months of unpredictable dry, hot weather ahead and to be vigilant with keeping your properties and townsites fire safe, particularly with maintaining firebreaks.
