Emergency Works for Grace Darling Park

Published: Wednesday, 19 June 2019 at 8:59:05 AM

The Shire of Gingin will undertake emergency remedial works for the Grace Darling Park coastline after storm surges caused severe erosion over the weekend of 7-9 June.

The works will consist of sand re-nourishment to shore up the eroded area and they will take place from Thursday, 20 June 2019. The sand will be sourced from a local sand pit and the works are expected to be completed by the weekend.

The Shire is still working on determining a long term solution for the coastal erosion issue with advice being sought from a coastal engineering consulting group. The Shire is also liaising with the State Government regarding funding for a long term solution and hopes in the near future to be able to provide an update to the public as to what form the long term solution will take.

The Shire thanks the community for its continued patience during this recent period. If community members can continue to steer clear of the eroded areas until emergency repairs are made, the Shire would very much appreciate your assistance.
