On Tuesday 2 August approximately 50 fire brigade volunteers, Shire staff, and Councillors got the chance to inspect the newly completed Gingin Emergency Services Centre.
Following a welcome from Shire CEO Aaron Cook, DFES District Officer Shaun Champ gave everyone an overview of the Centre's functions and capabilities before leading a tour through the facility.
The Gingin Emergency Services Centre consists of co-located fire station facilities for Gingin South Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade and Gingin Volunteer Fire & Rescue, as well as a Level 3 Incident Control Centre containing the latest communications and IT technology.
The Centre contains offices for incident management functions, planning, operations, communications, and other emergency service agencies when required.
The Centre was built by Midwest Building WA and the project took just over 12 months to complete.
Funding for construction was provided by DFES and the Emergency Services Levy, and the Shire of Gingin provided the land.
"The facility has generated quite a bit of interest from the public and other local government regions," said Shire CESM Phil Barrett. "We are delighted with the end result and extend our sincere thanks to Shane Troy from Midwest Building and everyone else involved with construction and fit-out for an outstanding job.
"I'd also like to thank Shaun, Andy, and the team at DFES Metro North Coast Regional Office for their support and assistance throughout the project.
"All members of both brigades and myself are looking forward to taking up residence and getting familiar with everything it has to offer."
An official opening of the Centre is planned for later in the year - more details will be published when available.
