A reminder to residents and landowners that burning permits will be required from 1 October (next week). You can apply from the front page of the Shire of Gingin Website - www.gingin.wa.gov.au/. Permits are only valid for 7 days.
With conditions becoming increasingly dry and the long-range outlook indicating the potential for a dry spring and summer, the permit period may end earlier than usual, if seasonal conditions warrant.
If you are issued a permit to burn, please make sure you:
Check the weather conditions and Fire Danger Rating before lighting up. Consider the wind strength and direction, temperature and surrounding conditions. Just because you have a permit does not mean it is always safe or appropriate to burn. If conditions aren't right, postpone your burn.
Register your burn with DFES via (08) 9395 9209, as required by your permit. Registering your burn lets authorities know that it is a planned burn and can help prevent our local volunteer brigades from being unnecessarily called out to reports of smoke or fire.
Never leave a burn unattended and have three or more people supervising. Conditions can change quickly, and a controlled burn can escape if it is not adequately supervised.
Have adequate water, firefighting equipment and personnel available and ensure you meet all requirements of your permit.
Fully extinguish your burn when finished. Don't assume a fire is out because there are no visible flames. Check the area thoroughly and ensure it cannot reignite.
Follow all conditions listed on your permit. The permit holder is responsible for ensuring the burn is conducted safely and in accordance with the conditions of the permit.
