The Shire of Gingin wishes to inform the community that after logistical delays, the removal of Hinchcliffe Lookout is due to commence next week.
Temporary fencing will be installed on Monday, 11 August to secure the area for public safety. Careful removal of the lookout structure will begin on Tuesday, 12 August, undertaken by a contractor on behalf of the Shire. The primary objective of this work is to safely retrieve and preserve as much of the lookout’s original timber as possible.
While we understand this news may be upsetting for many in our community, recent inspections have confirmed that erosion has now reached the top of the dune system, leaving the concrete footings of the lookout fully exposed. This has created a significant structural and safety risk, and immediate action is required to prevent the complete loss of the structure and any further environmental degradation at the site.
The Shire sincerely thanks the community for its understanding as we respond to this sensitive and evolving situation. For the safety of both the public and work crews, we remind everyone that this area presents a significant hazard and must be avoided. Please do not enter the temporary fencing or approach the site while works are underway.
