The Shire of Gingin would like to advise the community that annual sand renourishment works at Grace Darling Park/Edward Island Point beach access route are due to commence on Monday 8 December.
Approximately 4,000 cubic metres of imported material is being placed near Grace Darling Park/Edward Island Point beach access area to provide a temporary buffer against tidal activity and reduce erosion in this area. The existing dunes and vegetation will not be affected by these works. Please refer to the map below.
To avoid any miscommunication or confusion, a summary of the planned works is provided below:
- Works are due to commence on Monday, 8 December and will continue for approximately 3 weeks, whilst these works may continue into the beginning of the school holidays, there will still be plenty of beach space in Lancelin for visitors to enjoy. Vehicles can still access the beach via the Lancelin Jetty beach access area.
- The Edward Island Point beach access area will be closed to the public, as well as the footpath from the G’Day Caravan Park to Grace Darling Park and the footpath from Cunliffe Street to Grace Darling Park. Signage and fencing will be in place at various locations.
- No permanent structures are being built, this work is a temporary renourishment measure to help protect the vulnerable foreshore area.
- These renourishment works are funded by the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure through the Coastal Adaption and Protection (CAP) grants.
We appreciate the community's understanding and patience whilst we carry out these essential renourishment works and encourage residents to contact the Shire directly should they have further questions.
