Last Friday 28 March saw the final day in the office for Executive Manager Corporate & Community Services, Les Crichton, who concluded his five-year tenure with the Shire of Gingin to transition into retirement.
During his time with the Shire of Gingin, Les oversaw the delivery and implementation of the Shire administration’s new Altus financial management system, improved accounting procedures and processes, oversaw delivery of a hugely successful Gingin 150th Anniversary celebration, and provided sound, high-level financial and project management advice to the Shire’s administration and Council.
He was instrumental in the Shire of Gingin being awarded one of the Top 20 Best Practice Entities by the Office of the Auditor General for Financial Audit Results - Local Government 2021-22, a rare and exceptional achievement.
Les has been highly respected within the community for his leadership and support with numerous community-led projects including the Gingin Outdoor Activity Space and the Lancelin Bowling Club green.
Les has also stepped in as acting CEO on numerous occasions and seen his fair share of bushfire response and recovery efforts.
“I would like to thank Les for his 5+ years of service,” said Shire President Linda Balcombe. “Les has been an outstanding leader in the administration and has shared his knowledge and expertise with staff, Council and community members. He brought calmness when needed but also was not shy in asserting his authority to make decisions that affected community.
“Personally, I found him to be a great sounding board when I needed direction. He will be greatly missed but we wish him and his family well with his retirement.”
The Shire is in the process of recruiting Les’s replacement and an announcement will be made once the successful candidate has been appointed.
Thank you Les and all the best!
