Not all development applications within the Shire are assessed or decided by the Shire. Some large or complex proposals are managed through the State Government’s Part 11B Significant Development Pathway. Here’s how it works:
- The Significant Development Assessment Unit (SDAU) assesses the application.
- The Western Australian Planning Commission (WAPC), generally through its Statutory Planning Committee, decides whether it is approved or refused.
- The Shire is consulted during the process and can provide comments but does not make the final decision.
Want to have your say on a proposal? When an application is advertised, lodge your comments directly through the State Government’s consultation page within the submission period so they can be considered during the assessment.
